2012 Olympic Marathoner, Meb Keflezighi Partners with

Loma Linda University Children?s Hospital Medals of Courage Program to

?Inspire Young Patients Back to Heath

?

WHAT:? 2012 U.S. Olympic Marathon runner Meb Keflezighi (?Kef-lez-ghee?) has partnered with Loma Linda University Children?s Hospital?s (LLUCH) Medals of Courage (MOC) program.? MOC encourages recreational runners and triathletes to donate their own race medals to the child patients at LLUCH to inspire them in their personal marathons back to good health.?

WHO IS MEB: Meb is America?s top marathon runner.? He is an Olympic silver medalist, a 2012 Olympian, a NY City marathon winner and the father of three young children.? For more on Meb visit: http://marathonmeb.com/about-meb/

ABOUT MEDALS OF COURAGE: MOC was founded by Candace Ransom (Santa Barbara), the mother of Lucas Ransom, who was tragically killed in a shark accident in October of 2010.? Shortly before his passing Lucas had donated a marathon medal of his own to a sick child at Loma Linda as a simple and personal gesture of goodwill.? Candace went on to form Medals of Courage in his memory and now partners with champion marathon runner Meb Keflezighi to grow the program nationally during the countdown to Meb?s upcoming? run for Team USA at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

The goal of the program is to collect 2012 medals from everyday runners across the country and distribute those medals to the patients of Loma Linda.? Meb began the count with the medal he won at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in January in Houston, which earned him a spot on the Olympic Team. Medals are currently being sent in from across the country, with inspirational stories from those who have earned them, and are creating a spectacular display in the lobby of LLUCH.? After the Olympics Meb will return to Loma Linda to distribute the medals to the children and hopefully show off his own new medal from the Olympics!
