Talia Joy Castellano, a 13-year-old and battling two aggressive forms of cancer, was named the "honorary face" of Cover Girl after her makeup tutorial videos went viral on YouTube.
On World Cancer Day, stories like Castellano?s remind us of the courageous faces behind a cancer diagnosis.
The annual event, observed on Feb. 4, spreads awareness about a disease that kills more people worldwide than AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria combined, USA Today reports.
In the United States, 1,660,290 new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed this year, and more than half a million will die from the disease, according to the American Cancer Society.

18-Year-Old Fights Cancer Twice, Inspires Internet Memes
Zach Lederer, an 18-year-old, who had battled childhood cancer wanted anyone who would listen to know he could do it again. On Jan. 25, surgeons at Johns Hopkins had removed a cancerous tumor from his brain, but some of it remained. He jokes he was a little ?drugged up? when, in his hospital bed, he lifted his arms in a strongman pose, stared resolutely ahead and allowed himself to be photographed. Since being shared on Facebook, his signature pose has become an Internet sensation. 6-Year-Old Cancer Survivor With One Arm Plays Ball
Riley Rhoden, a 6-year-old cancer lost his arm to the disease. He has since persevered, finding inspiration in a YouTube video of a one-armed Japanese baseball player. In the video, the player catches with his mitt, then tosses the ball up, discards the mitt, grabs the ball again (this time with his bare hand), and throws it to the appropriate base.
