2012 College World Series: Arkansas Defeats South Carolina, 2-1

The Arkansas Razorbacks defeated the South Carolina Gamecocks, 2-1, on Monday night. Thus ends South Carolina's 22-game postseason winning streak and 12 straight victories in Omaha.

Arkansas' Ryne Stanek was the player of the game with just one run allowed in six innings, giving up three hits and three walks. Evan Marzilli hit a fifth-inning triple to put the Gamecocks on the board but still down by a run, 2-1. Barrett Astin allowed one hit over the final three innings of the game to close out the victory.

South Carolina starter Colby Holmes allowed two runs in 3.2 innings and then watched Tyler Webb complete the last 5.1 innings of the game. Webb limited the Razorbacks to two hits and struck out four batters.

Arkansas is 2-0 and will play next on Thursday. The opponent is yet to be determined because Wednesday will pit South Carolina against Kent St. in an elimination game. South Carolina's chance at a third straight College World Series title teeters on the brink of collapse. Can they tip the scales back in their favor?
