Be creative. Be different. ?Be funny. Be serious. Anything goes with Take Your Dog to Work Day!

And if your boss gives you a hard time about Take Your Dog to Work Day, look for another job. Just kidding.

Seriously, everyone knows that dogs help us keep our stress level down and can have a positive effect on our attitudes and some of those around us. How many times have you walked your pooch down the street and encountered a grumpy looking person? Then they take a look at your posh pal and their face brightens. Who wouldn?t want a canine in the office whether or not it?s?Take Your Dog to Work Day?

First celebrated in 1999, Pet Sitters International?s Take Your Dog To Work Day, which is always the Friday following Father?s Day, was created to celebrate the great companions dogs make and to encourage their adoption from humane societies, animal shelters and breed rescue clubs. Take Your Dog to Work Day?asks pet lovers to celebrate the humane-canine bond and promote pet adoption by encouraging their employers to support Take Your Dog to Work Day?by opening their workplace to employees? four-legged friends on this one special day.

A growing number of companies, including Amazon.com, Google, Dartmouth College and PetSmart, are allowing, even encouraging, their employees to bring their pets to work not just on Take Your Dog to Work Day but every day. Some companies have gone so far as to tout their pet-friendly office perk in the ads on job boards. With separation anxiety being the number one behavioral problem for pooches, allowing people to bring their pets to the office not just on Take Your Dog to Work Day but everyday?makes it a little easier on the pet parent and the canine. Of course, pets still must be trained to overcome separation anxiety since they can?t go everywhere with us, as much as we would like them too.

If you are considering taking your dog to work on Take Your Dog to Work Day or any other day, the?Washington Post?suggests:

? Make sure you have a well-socialized pet ? and a boss who is not allergic to or unwelcoming of animals. It also pays to find out how many others in your department are bringing in their pooches so your conference room doesn?t turn into a dog park.

? If you have a young pup or a very energetic or excitable dog, it may not be cut out for office life just yet. Maybe you could take it to a doggy day care or work from home with your pet instead.

? Commute to work wisely. Dogs are safest in the back seat, and you may want to consider a harness or crate depending on how long the ride in will be, according to Toyota?s pet safety ideas.

? Bring a bone or something else that will give your dog a distraction while you take care of business.

? Don?t leave the dog in the car. In hot weather, it takes just minutes for the temperature inside a vehicle to climb into triple digits.

Don?t forget: if you take part in Take Your Dog to Work Day or Week, snap a photo and send it to The Jet Set Pets at photos@thejetsetpets.com. In the subject line write: Take ?Your Dog to Work Day. We?ll run a gallery of all of the photos we receive by July 1, 2012.
